Excuse #8 – I Don’t Have Time To Get A Colonoscopy

February 28, 2015 | Filed under: Colon Cancer Awareness, Prevention

I don't have time to get a colonoscopy Not now I’m busy. I just couldn’t possibly take the time.  If that  Janice even got a whiff that I was in any kind of health trouble, she’d snatch my job out from under me (the little shark). I know I probably should and I’ll get to it, but right now I’m just soooooooo swaaaaaaaaaamped.  I don’t have time to get a colonoscopy. Oh, please, these guys can barely handle it when I take a lunch break, imagine if I were gone for the whole day?  Vale next month?  Oh, of course, yeah, I’ll be there.  That’s different, that’s fun!

I don't have time to get a colonoscopy“Isn’t there just some kind of home kit I can use?  I could squeeze in time for that.”

What are the warning signs of colorectal cancer?

  • Blood in or on your stool (bowel movement).
  • Persistent stomach pain, aches, cramps, or bloating that won’t seem go away.
  • Losing weight and you don’t know why.
  • Extreme fatigue

The best way to detect colorectal cancer in it’s early stages (before you notice it) is with a colonoscopy, but if you’re really busy, we totally understand.  So will your boss when you have to take six weeks off to have a large section of your colon removed and then another six months off for chemotherapy, after which you’ll be so fuzzy brained you’ll forget how to answer the phone.  They can live with out you for a day far more easily than for a year or more while you go through chemo, surgery, etc.

Reader Reviews

"I devoured it. It is fantastic! What a wonderful accomplishment!
You are truly an inspiration and I plan to recommend your book to all the people I see who are dealing with cancer. It explains so clearly all of the things that are so important for patients to ask—many of whom would never realize what questions to ask. I thought you handled all the sensitive subjects with lightness (love the humor), clarity and responsibility (even the Mary Jane, which can be very tough to talk about)." - Dr. Sheila Patel

"This book should be in every Doctors office and a part of every cancer patients care package. Her story is told with humility and wit and unvarnished truth. If you've been diagnosed, read the book. If your loved one has been diagnosed, read the book. If someone you know has been diagnosed, give them the book." - Gail Nigro
