Congratulations, you are a dinosaur~
Ok, so this is overboard I know, but I couldn’t help myself. I have a weird sense of humor which risks insulting people on a daily basis, but my heart is in the right place and right now it’s saying to take one for the team and be willing to speak up on stuff we don’t really want to talk about. Some of you reading this agree, but will never admit to it and that’s cool, but many people feel “weird” about the whole sticking a tube up an area of our body that they were raised to think should only be an exit. I mean how weird-ed out is just the thought of a rectal thermometer, hrmmm? Again, Stewie Griffin would disagree, but you get the gist.
I spoke to a good friend of mine (who happens to be a gay male), to gauge the offensiveness of this image. He merely said “I never thought of sex and a colonoscopy as being related in any way.” I love him. His humor can be quite caustic, so when he gave me this deadpan response I knew I was on point (he just wasn’t the intended audience). When I did the poll last week, I got several, refreshingly honest responses. One in particular, a straight guy said (between us) that he was worried that ehm, his flag might inadvertently run up the pole during the procedure and wouldn’t that make him a weirdo or crush his hetero world? The answer is no. Having a colonoscopy has nothing to do with sex or sexual orientation. You’ll be heavily sedated during the procedure, so I doubt a stiffy is even possible and if it is, I have a lot of single g/f’s who would love to meet you and help you prove your point of just how amazingly hetero you are, on a daily basis.
Another unspeakable in this realm is that we’ve heard all these terrible abuse stories throughout our lives and of what little we hear about colonoscopies they don’t seem that different. They are different, I assure you, this is no Sodom and Gomorrah, and I understand how difficult it would be for anyone who’s been abused in that way to even consider a colonoscopy, but I’m begging you, please don’t let that stop you from getting screened. These GI’s are in it to save lives and only have your health and well being in mind.
