Top 12 Gifts – #4 – The Original “McSteamy”

December 4, 2012 | Filed under: Notes from the Road

Great that they now have a basket full of foods that’ll give them a much needed boost.  How ironic would it be for them to throw them into the microwave and have the nutrients zapped right out?  That’s where these items come in handy.

There are a lot of good steamers out there.  Since I had to be careful about eating raw vegetables, I steamed them almost every day.  Remember that other good-to-know thing about cancer patients is that they are incredibly vulnerable to germs. You catch a cold and you may miss a day of work.  They catch a cold and may very well end up in hospital, so the more nutrition they take in, the better.

You can go as simple as this one here.  I’ve used mine for years because I like cooking on the stove and it is incredibly easy to use, just pour the water in the pot, drop this in and let it fan open, drop the veggies and put the lid on.  It was my way of balancing out buying the pre-packaged microwavable rice.   I do like the dual steamers out there though and think they’d make an excellent gift.  Just add some Jasmine rice and a bow and you’ve got yourself a thoughtful and very useful gift~

Reader Reviews

"I devoured it. It is fantastic! What a wonderful accomplishment!
You are truly an inspiration and I plan to recommend your book to all the people I see who are dealing with cancer. It explains so clearly all of the things that are so important for patients to ask—many of whom would never realize what questions to ask. I thought you handled all the sensitive subjects with lightness (love the humor), clarity and responsibility (even the Mary Jane, which can be very tough to talk about)." - Dr. Sheila Patel

"This book should be in every Doctors office and a part of every cancer patients care package. Her story is told with humility and wit and unvarnished truth. If you've been diagnosed, read the book. If your loved one has been diagnosed, read the book. If someone you know has been diagnosed, give them the book." - Gail Nigro
